Out of Eden, Part Four — Secondary Altriciality and the Origins of Culture: Why We Can’t Get No Satisfaction and What It Has to Do With Being Born Helpless
Posted by sillymickel
Human Nature, Culture, Pelvic Size, and Plato’s Cave: Needs Which We as Newborns Ache to Fulfill Are Satisfied by Other Species Perfectly
Secondary Altriciality and Culture
Let us now add another factor to this development of supposed intelligence and culture. Let us talk about the consequences of secondary altriciality. As I said, altricial means humans are born helpless. We would die if not cared for. Secondary altriciality of humans, and only humans, means our brains and consequent functioning are even less advanced than other species at birth. We are, in essence, born premature relative to other species.
So, the consequence of secondary altriciality is that the newborn requires a period after birth of getting its needs satisfied in the same complete way as it did prior to that in the womb. This is a characteristic of Homo sapiens. It is another one of those very few things that definitively distinguishes us from all other species known. That is, the human infant is in a more dependent state, when born, than any other species, when its young is born. The human infant at birth in terms of its degree of development, is at a level corresponding to that at which, in every other mammal, it would still be in the womb. In other words, we are born, comparatively, “premature.”
By comparison, all other mammals, when born, are more able to provide for themselves, are further along in their development toward independence when born, are more capable of bringing about or at least initiating the satisfaction of their needs . . . hence they are less dependent, and vulnerable, than are human infants.
Why We Can’t Get No Satisfaction
Secondary altriciality in human infants means that there is a greater need for care, for “mothering” — because of the newborn’s greater helplessness, greater dependence, greater vulnerability — than that of all other mammals postnatally. But even the best mothering cannot be as perfect in satisfying the infant’s biological needs as was the situation for it in the womb. Hence, there is going to be a gap between need and fulfillment inherent in this prematurity, an inherent frustration of need to at least some extent, and, hence, inherently an increase of at least some amount, in the degree of pain suffered by the newborn and infant in the nonsatisfaction or incomplete satisfaction of its biological needs.
But secondary altriciality is important in another respect. Since this phase represents a dependent phase that corresponds to phases that occur to other species en utero — this leaves Homo sapiens vulnerable to neurosis and mental illness (its roots in the pain of unmet biological need) to an extent unprecedented, in any other species . . . hence also contributing to increased brain size, increased secondary altriciality, and so forth in the way discussed above for birth. Thus, we have another vicious cycle, again with “fevered” brains and culture the byproduct.
Pelvic Size
In this light it is interesting to point out that Moore (1987) presented evidence of the significantly larger pelvic size in our ancestral line of hominids which would have either (1) allowed for a gestation period of up to twelve months or (2) allowed for an exceptionally easy birth — the increased brain size being much more readily passed through a larger opening. Either of these propositions, or a combination, is provocative in light of the above.
In other words, we can speculate that either (1) increased pelvic size in females was naturally selected for as brain size became larger, so as to minimize the deleterious effects of painful birth (as in creating neurosis in the adult, hence reduced reproductive fitness) or (2) gestation period was prolonged, with increasing brain size, to minimize the deleterious effects of imperfectly met biological needs which are a consequence of secondary altriciality.
In this second instance, the disadvantages of secondary altriciality are lack of precociousness in the infant, requiring an increase in maternal care after birth and reducing the economic potential of the female during that period. But it logically follows that there is a limit to which gestation can be prolonged without itself becoming an economic disadvantage to the female — certainly the proposed gestation period of two years, twenty-one months to be exact, for full precociousness at the level we see in nonhuman primates would be a substantial economic hardship on the female. Thus it would be selected against, in evolutionary terms.
Human Nature
Therefore, we may speculate that a combination of these factors resulted in a compensatory system where the fact of increasing brain size is eventually resolved, to date, by a comparatively reduced gestation period accompanied by increased need for child care after birth, increased need for economic dependency overall (both during and after gestation) by the female, increased need for male parental investment in providing for both female and child, and increased birth pain correlating with increased cultural development to offset or mitigate the effects of birth pain (See Fromm, 1955, on culture as providing the neurosis as well as the “opiates” to deal with such).
The net effect is a species with prolonged child care, increased tendency toward single-family units, increased brain size, greater cultural elaboration, increased birth pain for the neonate, increased “intelligence,” and increased neurotic and psychotic behavior (thus idiosyncratic and variable behavior) which requires further cultural accommodation, hence cultural elaboration — all evolving simultaneously, interrelating and mutually reinforcing each other. All in all, with these considerations, we have the basic factors which outline our distinctive human nature — that is, which constitute (for good or ill) our fundamental distinctions from other species.
The Result: Plato’s Cave
At any rate, the point is that viewing it either psychologically or historically, it can be said that the Fall from Grace in Eden is such that ever afterwards humans are indirectly related to God and Nature. By this I mean they are indirectly related to the processes of reality of either the physical or metaphysical (including their own inner life, their subjectivity) sort. They have turned their back on the beneficence of God, or Nature, and seek to go it on their own, to control Nature, to focus on survival. In that they are focused now on the world, they can see only a reflection of the Divine. They are confusing the map and the territory.
And in that reflection they seek to discern God’s will. In those shadows they seek to understand Truth.

Ego as Opiate for Disease of Humanness … Turns Flaws Into Supreme Accomplishments, Wrong-Gettedness: The Sixth Prasad from the Planetmates (updated)

Planetmates Aren’t Holding Back: “Your Ego is an Opiate for the Disease of Humanness,” They Say.
The Great Reveal from the Planetmates, The Sixth Prasad: Ego as Opiate
Planetmates Release The Sixth Prasad
Twisted Unwholesome Roots, Wrong-gettedness
Below is the entire text of what I received. Oh, yes. I’m sure everyone will just love the hell out of what the planetmates are saying now!! (ha ha ha!!!)
Fox was First Consciousness at The Sixth Prasad.
"This mitigation [of your lack, your scar] is accomplished through the creation of an alien consciousness construct which serves to both separate humans from the realization of your lack...also it serves as an alternate but OPPOSITE construction of self—opposite from the truth of your nature...."
The Sixth Prasad – Ego as Opiate for Disease of Humanness
So instead of the truth that, for reasons unknown, you were unfortunate enough to be deprived of the full and perfect nurturing of a near perfect divine Nature, as other species are, until they are ready to be in flesh… instead of the obvious truth — obvious to all other species — that this prematurity leaves a scar of hurt and rejection,
for starters; but also, helplessness and hopelessness, second; and third, that this occurs right at the beginning of known flesh existence so as to create the very unusually twisted unwholesome roots of humans; but then, fourth, this lack must be somehow mitigated for the species to not die out of pure despair, right at the outset. This mitigation is accomplished through the creation of an alien consciousness construct which serves to both separate humans from the realization of your lack, to essentially muffle
or obscure your horrible and precarious plight from your awareness, acting like what you would call an opiate essentially, but also it serves as an alternate but OPPOSITE construction of self — opposite from the truth of your nature — taking all your flaws, like language, and turning them into supreme accomplishments, in this way acting as a euphoriant. This alien consciousness construct, this child as well as parent of all your wrong-gettedness, is what you call Ego.

Paraphrase/Elaboration of “The Sixth Prasad” – by SillyMickel Adzema
So your superiority “complex” covers up your truth: The truth is that, for whatever reason, you among all the species on Earth are damaged in not receiving the perfect nurturing of a most benevolent power higher than yourself before you were born. This is a truth clear as can be to all other species that observe you. You, like us, would have remained in relative contact with and communication with this Totality — taught and nurtured by it — until you were ready to be in the world of flesh and matter. Your every need would have been taken care of perfectly; you would have a foundation of bliss, belongingness, and expansion of consciousness to carry forward with you into your life after birth.
The truth is that instead you are scarred and hurt by this lack. You have instead a foundation of rejection and pain, a feeling of being cast out of Nature, ejected from that Eden, and you feel at base a sense of wrongness: that either you are “wrong” or something is wrong or off. You call this Original Sin, in some of your conceptualizations of it. You are the prodigal son of Nature, the rebels in the house of the Divine. You are not individually responsible for this feeling, it is a product of who you are as a species. It is a consequence, as we will show you, of what your forebears did millions of years ago. It is not that what they did was wrong. It is that it was different, and it had this result that made you different … and basically unhappy. And it is not that it was wrong in an ultimate sense, either. We do not know that; that is beyond even our knowledge of the All. For the All has Divine and perfect reasons for everything, so it is conceivable, and likely, that even your straying was part of a greater pattern, an even more wonderful one. Indeed, we consider that is a part of why this all happened. We will get into that later, but one thing we do know for sure, and you do as well if you think about it outside of your ego and arrogance, is that it has led to the possibility of a great wrong happening now — for you and all planetmates. And it is in relation to that, that it is an aberration. We will show you how it has also led to more than just unhappiness at your root, but it has resulted in your doing much harm to the rest of Nature, and injecting much suffering into it, throughout your time on this planet.
At any rate, the truth is that you feel, at the core of your being, a sense of hopelessness and loneliness in relation to all of Reality. So, if you sometimes feel this stark aloneness, not only is it not surprising, but it is closer to the truth than the way you normally think and feel about yourself.
Since this happens at the very beginning of your life, its effects mold and define all later experience in your life, which occur out of and are interpreted in light of this misapprehension of Reality. So, it could not be more significant or of consequence.
It is a shock to the system of your early physical self, and in response to it you create really quite convoluted thoughts and attitudes, as ways of dealing with it. It comprises your very twisted roots — out of which grow everything else of you and which form in every way everything you will think and experience.
It is such a shock and so conducive to pain and misery, when brought into awareness, that your kind would die in infancy if you had not developed ways of dealing with it. This is that Ego again — your way of distancing yourself from your painful experience and seeming hopelessness. Despair, occurring at the beginning of your life, would cause you to fail to want to live, you would not thrive, you would die. Though this does happen to some of you, others of you survive through the creation of this construct of Ego and separation from painful Reality.
But this construct, though it saves you, is alien to all of Reality and it misconstrues it. It takes the vast expanse of Reality, which you experienced prior to it and which we experience to a greater degree than you, and funnels it through all kinds reducing valves, all of which are filters to the greater Reality, to leave you with that which will at least keep you alive. It takes all of consciousness and diminishes it to that which is practically useful, taking beauty and wonder and soul and giving it a life of plodding drudgery.
Disastrous as this is for your enjoyment of life, it accomplishes the two most important things for you to survive psychologically: It covers up the knowledge of your dire and precarious circumstances. It muffles and obscures the horribleness of your existence in relation to what it is for all others. Thus it represses much of the true knowledge of you, beginning the creation of that Unapproved and Hidden, and in so doing acts like an opiate.
The other thing it does is it takes what awareness is left, after this filtering and repression of a greater Reality, and makes of it something to rival and surpass all else that was lost. In becoming less than God, you defend against that lack by deeming yourself gods. Everything else about your situation is spun that way, too. These components are used to create this alien self, this consciousness construct separate from Nature and from true understanding. So your understanding of yourself and of Reality is for the most part the opposite of What Is. It takes your deficiencies, your feeling of lack and deprivation, and turns them into accomplishments. It is your species-wide acting out in reaction to cognitive dissonance. That is to say, you are sometimes aware — at least the psychologically knowledgeable of you — of this mechanism of yours to justify anything you have done and anything you have experienced — whether sought or not, whether it was actually beneficial or not — as being good or beneficial. You justify even your hardships and pain as being what was good for you, and unfortunately, too. For in this misconception of them, you then seek to inflict them upon others, in particular your children, as good for them, too! But these actions are simply to make acceptable, after the fact, what happened to you.
So also, you as a species do this about your early experiences and the plight you are in because of them. Not only do you justify them as being good for you — you say, for example, that the slapping of an infant fresh out of the womb helps it to get its breath going and is good in other ways, however much your senses decry and show the lie to that — but you raise them up as accomplishments over the experiences and Reality of the rest of Nature, and you along with them. Thus, this Ego acts as a euphoriant as well as an opiate. The drug reference is more than apt, for certainly, not only did it act as a “medicine” to save your life in the beginning, but it leads you down dark and twisted pathways of desperate seeking … it becomes an addiction for you, as you will see.
So, this consciousness construct is the product or child of your wrong-gettedness as a species, of your aberrant relation to Nature. It becomes then also the parent or creator of that much more of your wrong-gettedness. These twisted roots create the labyrinthine pathways of all later consciousness and the misguided, and often hurtful and damaging, actions of your lives.

Wonderful Can Happen, Part Three — Amazingly, Charlie Brown Connects: Remember … “Yes, We Can” Proved We Could
Why Know This? Amazingly, Charlie Brown Connects
So, these things we know. They are sobering rationalizations and ones we should not run from.
But lastly and most importantly, these prescient thoughts of long ago help me. I find that these time-capsule writings from my former mind are able to inform me and sharpen my vision of the Now,
as the events continue unfolding and rolling relentlessly over and through us and are reflected in high-pixel, high-def, infinite colors clarity on the flat screens all about. This time is felt and witnessed, the story being revealed cinema-like, but with pundits galore expounding 24/7, like loud-mouthed fellow movie-goers.
But then also they become the movie and are interwoven into the times themselves. And their words, with this time capsule before me, are sounding childish, repetitive, forgetful, amnesiacal. Especially this is true as many of the ones speaking now are remembered as being the exact persons commenting then. And their words, little changed, bespeak a zen-like ability to be newly alarmed, being reborn in every minute, but yet totally unchanged and untaught by all the years of witnessing and commentary. So they also have forgotten the way they once saw the world and their life … just as I once did.
If We Knew, Would We Act?
It seems a defense mechanism to forget that we saw all this coming. For to know that is to despair in realizing the impotence, even, of awareness. Who wants to realize that in these matters even a knowledge of the story line, as if having seen the movie once before, is totally useless? Who wants to think that there is a helplessness in affecting the events of our lives and times, that there is a total futility in changing or steering away or around even the tragedies clearly seen beforehand?
For knowing this we feel as detached as actual cinema-goers from the unfolding of the plotline. We feel ourselves to be not actors and hardly even the scriptwriters of our lives, instead merely the witnesses of intensely shocking and stunning events, which we actually expected but hoped we would be wrong about. So wouldn’t we want to block out that awareness of the futility of our actions? Wouldn’t we have to in order to have the heart to keep going at it? To get up and keep trying every day?
Sisyphus Remembering, Would He Continue Pushing?
If we remembered, like Charlie Brown approaching the football, or like Sisyphus rolling the boulder up the hill… if we remembered, would we continue to act?
No, we have to believe that we will be surprised this time, that indeed Lucy will hold the football and we will complete the kick. It is said that those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. As true as that is, how ironic then that we realize that those who remember history too clearly are doomed to helplessness in the midst of its unfolding. So it seems we are ineffectual either way.
But There’s More To It
Yet this is not the whole truth. If it were, then the cynicism we felt about “The Audacity of Hope”…remember that book?…well, that cynicism would have proven a correct perception. We would have been bored, again, watching a naïve young idealistic black man—like the many before, differing only in skin color—seeing his efforts, visions, hopes, and heartfelt desires to be helpful and to love away some of the darkness in the world around him vanish like the memory of yesterday’s storm-driven winds. But we, I, was one time wrong in that cynicism.
Lucy Apologizes, Sisyphus Rests.
To the astonishment, truly, of an entire world, Charlie Brown connected with the football, Lucy apologized for her past actions, and one heavy boulder remained steady on the top of a hill and gave a man a much needed rest from his endless labors.
For one incredible and glorious time, the movie we’d seen had a different ending—amazing enough in itself. But also the tragedy in the original did not occur. And as if God had for a time touched this planet, this Reality we call our World, our Life…as if God had just for one time touched, tipped, and turned our events, the awesomely unexpected happened.
A man so unbelievably naïve and unaware as to declare the “audacity of hope” and to call out and stir up the masses, deluding them as we’ve seen so many times before, that “yes, we can,” would.
Shaken Out of Our Mental Maze, We Would Be A-Mazed.
And we’d have to pinch ourselves to believe it to actually be happening even as we witnessed it. That he would actually succeed in doing exactly what he said he would do would not only show us that a man could actually affect the course of events, would show us that a person could not only change things from the way they’d always been (what kind of man can this be?). But that he would do it in a grand and sweeping way would be all the more astonishing. We would be all the more unbelieving that a man who said “yes we can” not only could but he could do it in a way that achieved beyond merely succeeding; never mind that merely succeeding would be doing the impossible.

Planetmates’ and Your Roles in This: You Have Always Known…. Part Three of Elaboration of The Thirty-Third Prasad. “Something Wonderful Is Going to Happen”
You know which you are if when you take the active role you discover in subtle put powerful ways how the forces outside yourself—all the Universe it seems—assists you and guides you in your role in ever way….
We, planetmates, are acting our role in this drama in coming to warn you. It is our part to reawaken your memory of your noble heritage. We are here to convey the message that there is an incredible opportunity and blessing opening in front of you.
Part Three of Paraphrase/ Elaboration of “The Thirty-Third Prasad”: Planetmates’ and Your Roles in This: You Have Always Known….
If you are hearing this, you can really only be one who is meant to have a role in this drama or one of those few who is meant to be learning right now through agonizing helplessness. You know which you are if when you take the active role you discover in subtle put powerful ways how the forces outside yourself—all the Universe it seems—assists you and guides you in your role in ever way.
You find yourself to be assisted by unseen, benevolent forces and to be made aware, tutored and guided by the wisest and most amazingly enlightening of That Which Is. If you are meant to agonize in helplessness, you will deem yourselves blocked from acting even when you do not really act. If the later, it is doubtful that you, either, are still here and hearing this.
Your individual decision has already been made, for “free will” is only one of the arbitrarily decided parameters of this game we play. We allow ourselves to be only dimly aware of Everything so that we can be surprised and more enjoying of this game we play. In your case,
you have added the element of greater forgetfulness so that you can even believe that you are the primary intender, decider, or actor in your game. You have deemed existence to be more fun if you would identify with the tokens in the game and forget who the players are; and what a funny sight you are to us,
strutting about as so many “kings,” each believing the rest of the world is but props in the play—like beings birthed from nowhere out of the forehead of Jove—that he alone is orchestrating.
But since this is in actuality only part of the fun to delude ourselves this way—you more than us, as we have said—some of you hearing this already know what your decision is. In fact, you have always known, and what you are doing now in hearing this is only reminding you of a decision that was made (it matters not BY who) “a long time ago,” so to speak. Or let us just say, outside of this game you are now playing. It was made in regards to this particular “token” in the game being played, which you call, “I” and “me.”
Others of you will be made aware of your “decision” (actually your fate; and hence your role) quite soon.
We, planetmates, are acting our role in this drama in coming to warn you. It is our part to reawaken your memory of your noble heritage.
We are here to convey the message that there is an incredible opportunity and blessing opening in front of you. But it requires your expanding your awareness beyond even what you were once and even what we are.
If you are one who is meant to actively participate in this glorious drama—no matter what the outcome might be…a good chance if you have gotten this far…you are now or will soon be taking up a role in it different from what you have been, or you are being affirmed and supported—sanctified, as it were—in a role you have already chosen…or inspired to greater commitment and enjoyment of it, for you can realize how grand and important and how wonderful, for you at least, but potentially for all of life, will be the consequences of what you do.
The Thirty-Third Prasad: Something Wonderful to Happen
In not choosing you have actually chosen your demise. We have come to remind you, to pluck your memory, to wake you, and to warn you. The rest is up to you, and we will all feel the results of your indecision quite soon if you do not heed us.
However, if you choose to be noble planetmates again and join with Nature in its defense, we will continue on in greater alliance together. The Earthly adventure can continue virtually without end. For in this case, something wonderful is going to happen. (final prasad)

The Sixth Prasad, of “The Great Reveal” by The Planetmates

The Sixth Prasad
So instead of the truth that, for reasons unknown, you were unfortunate enough to be deprived of the full and perfect nurturing of a near perfect divine Nature, as other species are, until they are ready to be inflesh…
instead of the obvious truth — obvious to all other species — that this prematurity leaves a scar of hurt andrejection, for starters; but also, helplessness and hopelessness, second; and third, that this occurs right at the beginning of known flesh existence so as to create the very unusually twisted unwholesome roots of humans; but then, fourth, this lack must be somehow mitigated for the species to not die out of pure despair, right at the outset.
This mitigation is accomplished through the creation of an alien consciousness construct which serves to both separate humans from the realization of your lack, to essentially muffle or obscure your horrible and precarious plight from your awareness, acting like what you would call an opiate essentially,
but also it serves as an alternate but OPPOSITE construction of self — opposite from the truth of your nature — taking all your flaws, like language, and turning them into supreme accomplishments, in this way acting as a euphoriant.
This alien consciousness construct, this child as well as parent of all your wrong-gettedness, is what you call Ego.

Wonderful Can Happen: With Dumbness at the Top and Media as the New Opiate of the Masses, Still, “Yes, We Can” Proved We Could.
Culture War, Class War, Chapter 23: Something Wonderful Can Happen
There Are Good Reasons Why Our Financial and Environmental Fortunes Careen Wildly About: Dumbness Rises to the Top
Blinded by Their Greed, They Overlook the Obvious: Why Our National Misfortunes Are Greeted with Such Surprise by Authorities and Pundits
Voices Never Heard
What I’ve been trying to say here is, there are perspectives that are relevant and are never heard. And I’m talking about perspectives that are right outside the doors of power ready to talk and be heard; often having been perspectives that had been embraced not long ago, but suddenly, not having any credibility at all…so that our democracy of many voices—now with the filthy rich and their Republican lackeys and their paid-for media in collusion to mine only one avenue of discourse—begins to echo the Soviet Union of old with its one voice, Pravda.
Horrors Far Worse
Back in 2000, I also had written,
I believe our friend speaks eloquently about some of those far greater horrors, and indicates they are there right now on our doorstep. We had a surplus and a will to tackle them a decade ago. Sadly we have wasted the last ten years reversing those environmental policies whose intent it was to help. And we have reversed our financial situation, which could have helped. In addition, we have reversed the restrictions on corporations and other policies that would have helped and at least slowed down this ominous impending doom.
So we are a decade further along in environmental collapse, and it is has increased its acceleration toward us. Meanwhile we have slashed away at our financial and other resources for dealing with it and chopped back the time in which to work. The way I phrased it a decade ago.
Dumbness Rises to the Top
As for Wall Street and the economy, let’s take another look at how the media has dealt with other perspectives to flesh out my claims above of these perspectives not being far off.
On CNBC, a couple of years before the economic downturn, they used to have as a commentator, Robert Reich, who was President
Clinton’s Secretary of the Treasury and the mastermind of the great economic turnaround of the Nineties.
But he was talked over, laughed at, and was routinely talked to as if he was a child or suffered sadly from some kind of bleeding heart brain cloud. Well, as his words began to be the ones that should have been listened to, he was no longer to be seen on CNBC. And then afterward we have such a comment like, “Well, nobody could have seen it coming.”
Well how could they, if they were no longer put on the show?
So, blinded by their greed, they missed what the people I knew were all seeing—danger ahead, and the unsustainability of a rally that had risen on so much manipulation, misinformation,
and constant drum blows of obviously wrong economic talking points hammered over and over across our airwaves and drowning out every sound of warning or opposition, so that surprise
and misinformation informed the trading decisions of the great bull traders.
So many people were hurt by this partisan power play. But that was the way of just about everything during those 8 years of, as one recent writer dubbed it, dictatorship.
Media Feel-Good Talk Does Not Equal Reality … and Why We’re Helpless to Prevent the Future Fukushimas and Killer Hurricanes.
Media Is the New “Opiate of the Masses,” with Pundits a New Priestly Caste Between Modern Pharoahs and the New Enslaved.
Media Mollifies Masses
Media Feel-Good Talk Does Not Equal Reality
No, they will, for the sake of ratings (profits), be a “feel good” media. They will spin out “comfort truth” — junk food for the mind — insubstantial and inconsequential and hardly soul-satisfying. But it will soothe the stresses brought to listeners through their otherwise participation in the capitalist matrix. As empty of truth as junk food is empty of nutrition it
will act as medicine for the troubles of the postmodern soul—enslaved and unfree—but unaware even of that…and unable to even know that. So this media will serve the functions that religion once did for the elite, becoming another opiate of the masses. And the pundits will play the role of the priestly intermediaries between our modern pharoahs—the banksters and the filthy rich—and the masses upon which they feed.
So no, it is not the media’s role to warn us of disaster. Hardly. Indeed, when that disaster is one of the many forthcoming from the actions of those elite they serve, it will be the media’s job to set up the screens of smoke and trivia to distract and entertain away from real concerns. Then they will, as we’ve seen, report afterward on it and bring out the “No one could have foreseen this happening.” Well that is a self-serving lie. I hope that is gleaned from all this if nothing else.
I’ve been detailing on the media complicity, indeed, facility in the Great Recession caused by the tax cutting policies of George W Bush. But since then we have seen Fukushima, the BP oil spill, and Sandy. Could Fukushima have been prevented? Yes. For I can personally tell you, as an anti-nuke activist in the Eighties, how we were warning back then of the immense dangers of nuclear power plants and especially those on earthquake fault lines. Has the media advanced that story line? You know the answer to that.
Feel good media? I think so! At odds with reality? You tell me.
In the Past It Has Had Horrific Consequences.
Feel-good talk does not equal reality. If it did there would not have been the Nazis, the Holocaust, a Stalin—five million dead; a Cambodia—millions dead; a Rwanda—dead dead dead; or an AIDS epidemic—uncountable dead and growing.
Yet what I wrote over a decade ago, at the time if it had been shared in any place of power, would no doubt have been challenged by this word: “Paranoid.” This is the common way the public uses denial to avoid harsh realities.
Blame the messengers, the dangers go away. I’m sure my planetmate friend’s piece earlier has already been labeled that way: “Paranoid.” “It’s all paranoia on the part of some crazies” is the common attitude.
That is the way we keep out the truth. It is like using a drug to ease the pain of your cancer, but it doesn’t do anything to keep you from dying.
Indeed, the planetmates’ lament, though it be labeled paranoid, is based on the findings of the best scientific minds of our times about the environmental collapses—the outright ecocide that is upon us from so many causes and in ways that are now uncountable in number.
Their message is so much more important in that we will likely reach the point of no return long before the masses of humanity are severely suffering from the continued environmental assault.
I don’t like to say it, but it needs to be said that some are convinced that it is already too late, that we had a window of opportunity and blew it. I know of groups in the
know who are absolutely convinced there is no saving us now and that it is naïve to expect anything but doom.
Troubling it is that, on top all that’s been said about this message and what it has told us about what we lost and how far we are now from where we need to go, not to mention knowing we were betrayed by our government obviously, we now realize without a doubt our media too helped when they could have stopped it all.

But There’s More To It
Lucy Apologizes, Sisyphus Rests.
The Only Thing We Can Be Truly Sure Of … Is We Can Never Be Sure… Which Means That Anything Is Possible… Which Means That Everything Is Possible.
Our Inability to Know Is the Source of a Hope That IS Real: Wonderful Can Happen, Part Four: It’s Just as Likely the Miraculous Will Happen.
Just When We Thought We Knew…
Anything Is Possible… Which Means That Everything Is Possible
The most unchanging thing of life is not the things we see that never change. They are not the most unchanging thing of life. The most unchanging thing of life is something surrounding the absolute clarity we have about these things, these harsh realities even. When you’ve finally come to accept life, you’ve accepted these unpleasant things, these hard truths, and you think that for sure now you’ve got it, that it was all about learning to accept that…and thereby become the “adult,” the seasoned, assured cynic.
Accepting Life’s Pain. But Because We Are Imperfect…
What I’m saying is: Knowing that, we know that it is exactly the imperfection that is the most solid thing in life. You see? It’s not the things that they try to make solid. This is the thing that is solid, is gonna be there, always. Nobody has to try to make that happen, there’s always going to be an unknown.
Therefore, since there’s always going to be an unknown there’s always going to be human imperfection. For we may think we know everything, sometimes. But only a fool goes through life very long thinking that. And so, in knowing that, knowing that that’s the most unchanging thing of life, the thing you can really count on, that’s never going to go away…well, we know that it is exactly the imperfection, that lack that’s in a person, that evil, that unmoving wrongness of the world that we have tried so futilely to change, that being in us, is the source of the blessedness of life, which is the fact that our ultimate unknowingness is the only true source of a hope that IS real,
It’s Possible “Something Wonderful Is Going to Happen.”
It is only because we know that we cannot really know, for sure, that then we can know for sure that there’s always got to be hope because we could never know for sure that there wasn’t. So, what a blessing that is. That being wrong, being imperfect means something unbelievable when you think of it: Which is that against all odds, “something wonderful is going to happen.”
Ultimate unknowingness is the only true source of a hope that is real. And you say, how can you say that? You say, that’s not true. Then I ask you, are you perfect? You say, no. Then I say, the only true thing is that you’re not perfect, so that anything you are absolutely sure is wrong has a possibility of being right.
And Anything Is Possible … Means Everything Is Possible.
And all because the only thing that we can be truly sure of—even when we are finally convinced that we should not expect anything special—is that we can never be sure… which means that anything is possible… which means that everything is possible.
